ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has awarded over 4,000 scholarships to Pakistani students since 2009, the parliamentary secretary to the Federal Ministry of Education Wajiha Akram informed the National Assembly on Friday.
In response to a question during Question Time, she said, out of a total of 4032, 3703 scholarships for PhD programs and 329 scholarships for post-doctoral programs were awarded during the said period.
She said that institutions working within the framework of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) are obliged to teach content developed by the National Curriculum Council (NCC), where all subject matter experts are taken on board to develop textbooks based on contemporary trend.
She said that the national anthem is already a regular feature at morning meetings held at the beginning of the day in the educational institutions under the auspices of the FDE.
However, the holding of the assembly has been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In response to another question, she said, the ministry has already taken a number of initiatives to minimize the training losses caused by the outbreak of COVID-19.
“An initiative from Tele-Schools in the wake of COVID-19 was launched to provide education to the students who were confined to their homes due to the closure of educational institutions,” said Wajiha Akram.
